چکیده

In this paper we consider the problem of solving a special class of nonlinear constrained optimization problems. The study of this class of problems has been motivated by a practical application, namely the railway yield management problem. The aim of this paper is to deene a nonlinear minimization algorithm which exploits as much as possible the structure of the problems under consideration. The approach followed is to transform the original constrained problem into the unconstrained minimization of a continuously diierentiable merit function whose un-constrained minimizers give a solution of the original constrained problem. In comparison with the merit functions proposed before in the literature, this new merit function has the distinguishing feature of taking full advantage of the particular structure of the constraints of the original problem. Furthermore we show also that it is possible to deene descent search directions which are particularly well suited for the proposed merit function. By using the new merit function and the related search directions it is possible to deene a class of globally and superlinearly convergent constrained minimization algorithms. We report also the results of a numerical experimentation performed by a preliminary implementation of an algorithm in this class. These results indicate that the proposed approach seems to be very promising.

Optimization of the product portfolio has been recognized as a critical problem in industry, management, economy and so on. It aims at the selection of an optimal mix of the products to offer in the target market. As a probability function, reliability is an essential objective of the problem which linear models often fail to evaluate it. Here, we develop a multiobjective integer nonlinear cons...

An Efficient Algorithm for Reducing the Duality Gap in a Special Class of the Knapsack Problem

A special class of the knapsack problem is called the separable nonlinear knapsack problem. This problem has received considerable attention recently because of its numerous applications. Dynamic programming is one of the basic approaches for solving this problem. Unfortunately, the size of state-pace will dramatically increase and cause the dimensionality problem. In this paper, an efficient a...

A Heuristic Algorithm for Nonlinear Lexicography Goal Programming with an Efficient Initial Solution

In this paper,  a heuristic algorithm is proposed in order to solve a nonlinear lexicography goal programming (NLGP) by using an efficient initial point. Some numerical experiments showed that the search quality by the proposed heuristic in a multiple objectives problem depends on the initial point features, so in the proposed approach the initial point is retrieved by Data Envelopment Analysis...

An iterative method for tri-level quadratic fractional programming problems using fuzzy goal programming approach

Tri-level optimization problems are optimization problems with three nested hierarchical structures, where in most cases conflicting objectives are set at each level of hierarchy. Such problems are common in management, engineering designs and in decision making situations in general, and are known to be strongly NP-hard. Existing solution methods lack universality in solving these types of pro...
